Triathlon is an endurance sport that combines successive swimming, cycling and running. This link gives the triathlon sports a number of characteristics, for during the competition, the transitions (link between discipline and other) are of great importance not only tactical point of view but also from a physiological point of view, what creates the need to reconcile the disciplines to each other not to create conditions that may affect their development. Most studies are focused on the last transition (bike-race walk), may be the most momentous at the time of victory, because that is where the athletes win or lose the race.
Heiden & Burnett (2003) determined the effect of cycling on the activity of various leg muscles (vastus lateralis and medial hamstring) in a foot race back. The results of this study show that there are major changes in muscle function when switching to pedal the bicycle to run on foot, by subtracting performance by having to perform an integration phase from one discipline to another, limiting the acquisition of a better outcome in the competition.

An optimal position on the bike can help the triathlete to develop greater skill and physiology, improving performance and reducing the risk of injury.
