Shared Reading: A Strategy for Early Childhood Education

In shared reading, the educator and a small group of children read together different types of verbal text and graphics. The adult encourages children to identify the pictures, predicting verbal content and relate these representations to their own experience, knowledge and interests. This type of reading allows children to behave like readers .

How to plan a reading compatible?

Before reading: selecting targets and as they choose an appropriate text.
During reading: The adult moderator, guiding and supporting the children's participation in the activity, page by page.
After reading : Dialogue to promote understanding and implementation of a complementary activity (written production, games, songs, rhymes, etc.)

How would plan a shared reading with texts given by the Born to Read program at your institution?
